We’re committed to making Boxfresh products responsibly, with respect for people and the environment.
1. Ethical trade
Our policy is to only do business with manufacturing partners that respect the rights of the people who make our products.
Our Code of Employment Standards for Suppliers reflects globally recognised labour standards, and is aligned with the Ethical Trading Initiative’s Base Code. We monitor our suppliers’ performance against these standards, and support their efforts to improve by sharing best practice and providing training where necessary.
2. The environment
We are looking at ways to reduce the environmental impacts associated with making and shipping our products. For example, we give our designers and suppliers the guidance they need to avoid the use of any potentially harmful chemicals, and we choose to ship our products by sea instead of by air freight where possible.
We also take steps to reduce our own environmental impacts, which are already relatively low. We work in a modern, efficient building, recycle around two-thirds of our office waste, encourage employees to ‘think before they print’, and set all our printers to double-sided printing. Our jobs do involve international travel, but we avoid flights where possible by using videoconferencing.
3. Supporting charities and communities
We are committed to supporting community groups and charities, and contribute through a combination of product donations, fundraising activities, and employee volunteering.
Our partners include:
Teenage Cancer Trust
We have teamed up with schuh to launch a creative design competition in aid of a great cause – the Teenage Cancer Trust, a world leader in the care of young people with cancer.
‘Swich It Up’ gives designers, artists and creative enthusiasts the chance to show off their skills by designing their very own Swich hi-top and shoe box. Our winner – Sarah Coey - received £1,000 prize money, had her custom shoe sold in schuh stores nationwide, and had the option of embarking on a work placement with the Boxfresh team.
We gave £1 for every competition entry to the Teenage Cancer Trust, who also received 10% of the profits from every custom Swich shoe sold.
In Kind Direct
We donate surplus products to In Kind Direct, an organisation that redistributes goods from brands and retailers to UK charities working at home and abroad.
Through In Kind Direct’s network, Boxfresh products have reached charities including the East London Gymnastics Centre, a community hub that provides nursery care, after school clubs, fitness facilities and gymnastics classes for people living in deprived areas of East London.
